Introducing the Death Clock
Count down the seconds you have to live! An inspiration to carpe diem - seize the day.
“Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero” - the Odes of Horace, Roman Poet
What would you do if you knew your time on Earth was limited? Learn a new language? Live your relationships to the fullest? Maybe try skydiving? It’s an important personal and philosophical question and Inquisitive Inc is here to inspire you to answer it, with the Death Clock!
Users simply answer a few questions that have the biggest impact on lifespan calculations, hit the big red button on top and boom, their life is locked in, and the countdown begins.
Featuring a nostalgic design inspired by retro electronics, the Death Clock includes mechanical controls, a true digital seven-segment display, and of course, it’s not just for counting down your life - it’s a fully functional digital clock as well.
Some of the greatest artists in world history spent untold hours creating works to promote the idea of memento mori - the reminder of death. Not to be morbid, but to inspire people to live a life of purpose and meaning; to appreciate a life well lived and all the blessing people experience every day.
And in that spirit, the clock also features mottoes in Latin: omnes vulnerant, ultima necat (“all wound, the last kills) and mox nox (“soon it will be night.”)
Those mottoes - and the design for the clock itself - were chosen by Michael Stevens, one of the most prominent science YouTubers in history, and whose almost 25 million subscribers have thrilled to a new video from Michael, featuring the clock:
Per Michael’s design, the programming for the clock’s timer is based on detailed actuarial models. So while each personalized countdown will not be exact, it is significantly symbolic, a reminder to carpe diem - seize the day.
